Cover-ups are an essential of any summer wardrobe. If you have any lazy summer pool days or beach trips planned, they are the easiest way to dress up your swim style or make your walking around in your swimwear restaurant approved/socially acceptable. I’ve rounded up a few my favorite cover-ups to share with you along with some styling tips! Hope you enjoy and get some inspiration for your next beach day!My favorite cover-ups for just hanging out by the pool or ocean side is a cover-up that still shows off your suit. Swimsuits aren’t cheap and I’m always trying to find a cute/flattering swimmie…why would I want to cover that up? With an open style cover-up, you can feel covered, but still show off the cute cut/design of you suit…it’s the best of both worlds. This style of cover-up is especially great if you’re feeling a little puffy and bloated from too much fun in the sun, if you know what I mean 😉 I also like the plain white of this coverup. It’s chic and really elevates the look, plus it’s not going to compete with any swimsuit I would pair it with. It allows the swimsuit to be the star of the show. This particular cover-up is from Amazon and was under $15. It’s light, breezy, and looks nice when you’re wearing it. It’s not going to win any quality awards, but who cares. It’s an item that’s literally going to get thrown on the ground/in the sand. I don’t need something expensive and high quality for that kind of treatment.Sometimes, though, you need to keep it completely covered. A lot of casual restaurants on the beach require that your swimsuit be covered to dine. In this case, I like the cover-up to be the statement piece, since my cute swimsuit will be hidden. I love this cover-up from Grace and Lace Co. I’m obsessed with stripes during the summer, and the colorful tassels add a fun and playful touch. Plus, the cinched waist is a great idea. A lot of cover-ups are just like a big sack, but the cinching detail helps to give some shape and definition to your figure. This specific coverup was a bit pricier but it’s well made and the fabric is extremely nice and soft. While it’s more expensive than Amazon, it’s still not going to break the bank at $44!I also love to pair swimsuits with shorts, especially for days where you may be running in and out from the room to the water multiple times a day. Shorts are easy to slip on and off, and when lounging in the room, especially with friends or family members present, it feels like you’re just wearing regular shorts and a shirt. I found these white shorts from J. Crew Factory on major sale. They were around $24 dollars and I was surprised at the super thick material. They’re not the softest or breeziest shorts I own, but the quality is very good and I think they will last for a long time. I, again, went with the white just because I know it will pair nicely with any swimsuit in my drawer. I also ordered a size up because I wanted them to fit loosely, but I wish had gotten my true size, as they seem to run a little large. If you’re between sizes, definitely go with your smaller size!
If you’re like me, and just can’t resist cute prints and patterns, I would recommend getting a cute pair of shorts as your cover-up. The only problem is that you won’t be able to pair it with as many swimsuits, but if you’re a one-swimsuit kinda gal or always just grab the same color of swimsuit, get a cute, summery pair of patterned shorts. These particular pineapple shorts are from Lilly Pulitzer. I actually snagged these for a really good price during the annual Lilly Pulitzer After Party sale in 2017 for my upcoming honeymoon. They are the absolute cutest shorts ever and excellent quality. The pineapples are embroidered and like I said, I’ve had these since 2017 and they’ve held up beautiful through multiple beach trips and pool days. However, I literally only have ONE swimsuit I can pair them with because of the bold color…hmm, maybe I need to buy a few more swimsuits to match these with 😉
