Besides my love of fitness and food, I’ve always had a love of fashion. In fact, fashion is probably my first love. I can remember being only 5 or 6 years old, and my favorite activity was going through my mom’s catalogues and circling all the clothes I wanted to fill my closet with. I still like to follow fashion, but I tend to keep things simple and practical. Sure, I love seeing runway fashion and what the magazines say is on trend, but most of us are just looking for something to wear in our everyday lives. I’ve decided to style an outfit each week and share with you guys here on the blog. I’ll include what I was thinking when putting the outfits together, as well as price points and money saving tips. I hope you enjoy these posts and that they give you the inspiration you need the next time you walk in your closet and feel like you have nothing to wear!
Today, I’m sharing what I’ll be wearing for Valentine’s Day this year. This is the most adorable heart flounce dress from Ann Taylor LOFT. I have always loved shopping at LOFT for their classic and casual looks. They also regularly have 40-50% sales on their entire store/site. This is the best time to stock up on cute things you have been eyeing, and that’s exactly how I snagged this dress. I immediately fell in love with it, put it in my cart, and waited a few weeks until it finally went on sale. I scored it for 50% off making this dress around $40 after taxes. Can we talk about the precious heart pattern? SO cute for Valentines Day, right?!? Also, at a glance, it just looks like a polka dot pattern. Since it’s a neutral color palette, it really doesn’t scream V-Day, so it could certainly be worn beyond the holiday. I also adore the flounce bottom to this dress. It gives it just a little something extra than just a regular shift dress.
I paired the dress with these fun reddish-purple block heel pumps that I got from DSW. I got these shoes for a whopping $10! I waited for a site-wide sale, plus I had some credits since I’m a rewards member, which I HIGHLY recommend if you’ll be shopping at DSW. It’s totally free and they have some really great money back coupons with no minimum purchase. You can also stack your savings vouchers, which is what I did to get the price of these shoes down, not that they were terribly expensive to begin with. The heel is a good height, measuring in at just under 3 inches, and the block heel makes them incredibly comfy for walking/standing.
I almost always accessorize patterned dresses with a statement earring. A necklace would either detract, or more likely, compete with the pattern. That’s not something you want. I live for statement earrings, and have quite the collection, so I paired this dress with these Kendra Scott teal beauties, but you could pair just about any statement earring of your choice with the dress. I also tried a big, gold, statement earring and it looked great, as well. However, if you wear a neutral shoe, I would say definitely choose a colorful earring to bring more visual interest to the look. I believe that every look always needs a pop of color.
Speaking of color, you can also add more of it by the make-up you wear. I decided to swipe on a bright, pink lipstick from Beautycounter (No, I do NOT sell Beautycounter, but I do truly love the products,) since I felt like the look needed just a touch more of brightness! I think the bright shade of lipstick, as well as the light smokey eye (using the “romantic” palette from Beautycounter) really rounded out the whole look.
I hope you enjoyed this post and found it useful! I look forward to bringing you more fashion content in the coming weeks!
